About us

At IMD we specialise in helping individuals and businesses navigate complex legal issues with expertise, clarity, and empathy.

Our clients often lead globally connected lives, operate across diverse industries, or face high-stakes situations that require more than just legal know-how, they require strategic, personal support. Whether the complexity arises from cross-jurisdictional factors, cultural context, or commercial scale, we are here to deliver tailored solutions.

We offer personal and strategic legal support to individuals whose lives don’t fit neatly into borders, and to businesses, both international and UK-based, seeking to succeed in an increasingly interconnected legal and commercial environment.

Whether you are facing a high-stakes family matter, a sensitive private client issue, a commercial dispute, a cross-border transaction, an immigration concern, or a regulatory challenge, our team combines legal excellence with cultural understanding and an unwavering commitment to results.

Founded in 2015 by Marcin Durlak and Iwona Durlak, IMD was built on a purpose rooted in their personal journey: to connect diverse communities and help minorities thrive. Today, our diverse and multilingual team continues that mission by delivering high-quality legal services to people and businesses from all walks of life.

Equality, diversity, and inclusion are not just values we talk about.

Our Commitment to Equality, Diversity and Inclusion

“As a neurodivergent person, I feel understood, respected, and valued at IMD. I am happy that my seniors play on my strengths, and let me develop at my pace and in a way that benefits me the most. They have time to ask if everything is ok, and I know this is genuine”.

“There is genuine warmth and respect here. It’s a place where people are accepted for who they are and that makes a real difference.”

“I feel accepted for who I am, and comfortable even when it comes to me being gay.”

These voices reflect what we strive to build: a workplace where everyone belongs and where everyone can thrive.

Equality, diversity, and inclusion are not just values we talk about. They are embedded in our daily work, team culture, and leadership.

We proudly operate an internal EDI Committee that drives ongoing initiatives to foster an inclusive environment across the firm. From celebrating cultural events to reviewing recruitment practices, we are proactive in making sure everyone feels seen, heard, and valued.

Our involvement extends beyond our own walls. As an active contributor to the Manchester Law Society’s EDI Committee, we also help shape positive change across the wider legal community.

We believe that a truly inclusive firm doesn’t just reflect diversity, it embraces and thrives on it. And it shows not just in what we say, but in what our people feel every day.

We are committed to creating a workplace where people don’t just work, they thrive.

Our Commitment to Mental Health and Wellbeing

Wellbeing is a priority at IMD. We operate an internal Mental Health and Wellbeing Committee to ensure we are continuously listening, learning, and improving. Our leadership style encourages openness, balance, and mutual support.

Our Mental Health & Wellbeing Committee is composed of colleagues who either have first-hand experience of mental health challenges or are passionate about supporting others. We regularly offer talks, workshops, webinars, and access to practical self-care resources to support our team’s wellbeing.

“As someone who has struggled with mental health issues for the majority of my life, the understanding and supportive environment provided by you mean more to me than words can fully capture (…).”

Permanent 4-day workweek, flexible remote working

Initiatives such as fully flexible remote working and our permanent 4-day workweek reflect our belief that great work should not come at the cost of a great life. These policies aren’t perks, they are part of a wider vision to ensure our team has the freedom, support, and space to succeed professionally and personally.
