Your child may be a British Citizen in which case you will not need to register, for example if the citizenship was automatically acquired at birth, if your child is not a British Citizen there may be potential entitlement to registration. We would need to consider whether:
– There is entitlement to registration
– The discretionary criteria are met
– There are compelling or compassionate circumstances
If your child was born in the UK and they were not British at birth because the parents were not British Citizens or settled, once the parent become a British citizen or settled the minor acquires the entitlement to registration.
The child may be entitled to registration under different sections of the British Nationality Act 1981, you may include the child in your own application for citizenship, the child may have been British resident for the first 10 years of their life or, as mentioned above the application may be discretionary.
